Freckles are essentially tiny pools of a compound called melanin in your skin. They are formed when you’re out in the sun a lot. Some people get freckles and others don’t. The people who have freckles have a certain type of a gene called MC1R. 🙂 It’s most common in Northern Europeans (including people from Ireland!).
