So it is not cannabis itself that is helping epilepsy but it is an oil that you get from the cannabis called cannabidiol. This cannabidiol seems to be helping the people with epilepsy who have not been able to use the other medicines available to control seizures as they do not work for them. So what the cannabidiol does is it targets receptors and channels in the brain and affects the neurotransmitters that are responsible for sending messages or sometimes misfiring and stops this from happening! There are lots of trials going on at the moment looks at cannabidiol and how it works!
