• Question: how come we know more about space then the ocean even though the ocean is closer to us?

      It’s a total shame! Ocean exploration doesn’t get much money. The agency in America that explores space (NASA) gets a lot more money than the one that explores the ocean (NOAA). NASA’s budget for one year would fund America’s ocean exploration budget for 1600 years!
      There’s a great TED talk by the man who discovered the wreck of the Titanic on this topic! I love it. You can see it here:

      The coolest part of this, though, is that you can find out so much yourself if you’re interested in it! It’s such a great time to be an explorer! There are two AMAZING Irish ships that explore the ocean and you can learn about them here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLMC3mxnvQk)

      We can still learn so much from the ocean and I can’t wait to see what gets discovered in our lifetimes!

      As Maureen says, the money is just not given to explore the ocean. And I totally agree with Maureen, it is such a shame that we know more about space than the oceans on our own planet!!

      I suppose the oceans are harder to study with probes than space is.
